Mangaluru, Apr 29: A meeting presided over by the deputy commissioner regarding the prevention of the spread of coronavirus while trade operations were conducted at the Central Market was held on Thursday, April 29. The local MLA, city police commissioner and assistant commissioner (Law & Order) were present.
In the meeting, it was pointed out that stores other than those selling essential commodities were not supposed to function according to the orders by the state government issued on April 21. Only essential items of daily use can be sold from 6 am to 10 am with effect from 9 pm on April 27.
The district administration has come to know of several roadside vendors, wholesalers and of people who are flocking in groups at Central Market and completely ignoring Covid guidelines. The wholesale business has been already shifted to Baikampady APMC Yard. Nobody has permission to conduct business near the Central Market. The business in progress there is unauthorized.
The commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has directed officials to oversee that fruits and vegetables are sold to people in a decentralized manner at the Central Market while social distancing is followed. He has also directed the assistant police commissioner of traffic to take suitable action to prevent traffic congestion in the market vicinity.
