Mangaluru: To avoid rush, administration considers home delivery of essentials

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 29: Lockdown model curfew is in force in the state and the government has urged the people to stay indoors as far as possible. Still, people have been coming out of their homes in large numbers between 6 and 10 am in the guise of buying essential goods. This has been resulting in increasing the density of vehicles and people in public places within the city. To avoid this from happening, the city administration has been thinking of resorting to home delivery system.

The administration is drawing up a plan to deliver needy things at home, by striking an understanding with the shop owners. Under the scheme, the city corporation will hold discussions with those operating essential goods on the city. Lists of shops in particular wards are prepared and the people are informed of this list. People can send a list of items needed through mobile message. The shops will pack the things and deliver the same at the doorsteps.

During the previous lockdown, information about shopkeepers had been obtained and the shops had delivered things to the homes of the customers. This scheme may be implemented this time if the lockdown is extended or if the number of corona-infected people goes up.

Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner Akshy Sridhar, said that the plan of home delivery is conceived under which the shop owners will deliver things to the homes of customers. He said the final decision has not been taken, and a decision will be taken depending on the circumstances in the future.

Attention diversion technique from main issue of Covid19, especially when they know it miserably failed last year as no vendors were interested in this scheme because it doesn't get them any extra incentive!

Whatsapp message based No-Contact delivery is provided by neighbourhood shops in big towns. Payment is taken through UPI or Debit card during delivery. But, they need to have additional workforce.

Last year too, administration said and promised the same thing and they had given a list of numbers of grocers to contact. But, none of the grocers were not picking the call...and ignoring whatsapp messages. So, many of us suffered a lot....especially who didnt have any vehicles to move on......its better if administration itself can volunteer and take leadership to deliver the essentials sub area wise and it will be highly appreciated...

This plan of MCC will be in place after the lockdown is lifted. This proposal was there last year too. Why not order through existing online/ app. or give more time to buy essentials so that there are no crowds.Lockdown is a sure shot way to spread infection.
