Udupi, Apr 28: A video of a driver of a private bus stating his miserable conditions brought on by the lockdown has gone viral.
In the video, the bus driver can be heard slamming the state government for lockdown norms, which has banned the movement of public modes of transport. The driver deplored the fact of no longer having employment and that he would now have to earn his daily bread by becoming a labourer.
"Yediyurappa-government did not prove helpful to us at all. The people who have government jobs have nothing to worry about, whereas people like us will have to hunt for employment. Buses in huge number are now off the road. Those who work in this field have families to feed, where will they go now?" he lamented.
"The BJP government in the state is not efficient. I will not vote for this party again," he added.
As per sources, the driver works for a private bus company based in Kundapur, where the video was shot.
The lockdown that was enforced in the first wave of coronavirus had heavily affected the business of the transportation industry. At one point in time, the staff was sent on unpaid leaves due to the poor occupancy of buses amid the fear of infection. Even rising fuel cost and inadequate support from the state government had crippled public transport.
