Bengaluru, Apr 27: With the 14-day State-wide curfew against the surge in the Second Wave of Covid infections, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai took stock of the preparations and urged the people to cooperate by imposing self-control to overcome the pandemic.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Tuesday, the minister said the people should wholeheartedly cooperate and remain indoors as far as possible and avoid roaming around unnecessarily.
Bommai, who is also in charge of the Law and Parliamentary Affairs portfolio, said the B S Yediyurappa government decided to clamp the 14-day State-wide curfew in the State Cabinet meeting held on Monday following the continuous spike in the Covid positive cases in Bengaluru and other parts of the State.
“It is the responsibility of the people to willingly respond and support the tough measures and the State Government’s efforts to break the chain of the Covid infections,’’ he said pointing out that cooperation and support of the people was essential to overcome the pandemic.
The minister said the people must realize that they must take steps to protect themselves and safeguard their health. “All of us must realize that our health and that of others, including our loved ones, friends and relatives is in our hands. We must respond accordingly,’’ he said.
The Home Minister said he has directed the police officers throughout the State to enforce the curfew restrictions strictly without any leniency.
He pointed out that the Maharashtra government’s tough decisions and measures to enforce lockdown has resulted in reducing the positive cases. "We should also be vigilant and adhere to the curfew guidelines to curb the rise in the positive cases,’’ he said.
Bommai said he has directed the police to take strict action against those moving around unnecessarily and deliberately violating the curfew restrictions.
In Bengaluru, skeleton services of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will be plying to enable essential services and also facilitate people going to hospitals or going on urgent work or buying essential things, he added.
