Mangaluru, Apr 27: As the demand for liquid oxygen has soared suddenly due to the increasing cases of Covid infected patients, the district administration has ordered all stocks of oxygen used by industries for medical use.
The requirement of oxygen for medical use was three tonnes per day before the onset of Covid. Now it has doubled. So the district administration has ordered the use of oxygen meant for industries in treating Covid patients.
Oxygen beds are made ready to face any adverse situation. At present all hospitals in the district have adequate stock of oxygen. But the doctors opine that the stock might not be sufficient if the number of infected patients rises sharply in coming days.

Oxygen refilling is done at three places in the district of Dakshina Kannada including Karnad of Mulky. But there is not a single facility in the whole district where the oxygen is produced. Oxygen is produced on large scale at JSW of Sandur in the district of Bellary and from there it is being supplied to the entire Karnataka state through tankers and cylinders are refilled.
It may be recalled, a meeting over the scarcity of oxygen and its timely supply was held on Monday, April 26 where it was announced by the MLA that oxygen plants will come up at Wenlock hospital and ESI and Bantwal hospitals.
