Mangaluru: Attack on prison inmates - Four cases filed against accused

Mangaluru, Apr 26: Relating to the attack on the under trial prisoners lodged in the district prison here, four cases have been registered against the person accused of the attack. The cases include assault on the under trial prisoners, attacking jail staff, attempt to assault investigating police officers etc.

It is said that the accused had accumulated carrom board frame, tube light and other things for use during the attack. He was produced before the judge on Sunday and remanded to judicial custody. City police commissioner Shashi Kumar, revealed that the accused will be taken into police custody for further investigation.

The police commissioner also revealed that already 20 inmates of the prison have been shifted to prisons at Belagavi, Shivamogga and Dharwad.

Shashi Kumar also informed that under city police commissionerate, 10 personnel have tested positive for Covid. “All of them have taken vaccine. Two are hospitalised who have mild symptoms and other eight are in home isolation,” he said.
