Bengaluru, Apr 25: Union minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, said that the state government will decide about the desirability or otherwise of continuing weekend lockdown based on the need for it. "Chief minister, BS Yediyurappa, will discuss the matter with his cabinet colleagues and take a decision. If it is felt necessary, weekend curfew will continue and the decision is left to the discretion of the chief minister," he explained.
He noted that the state government has taken many measures to bring coronavirus, which has been spreading fast, under control in the state. In spite of this, on a single day on Saturday, nearly 30,000 new infections were found. Therefore, relating to corona management, an important meeting headed by union minister, D V Sadananda Gowda was held today at the Vidhana Soudha.
Sadananda Gowda held a meeting with the health minister, Dr K Sudhakar and chief secretary of the government, Ravikumar, and MLC, Narayana Swamy. He urged everyone to get vaccinated to stop coronavirus from going to the third wave. "While the government is responsible to vaccinate everyone, it is the responsibility of the citizens to get themselves vaccinated," he stated.
The meeting discussed the central government aid, oxygen and Remdesivir to control the coronavirus infection. Discussions also hovered around the optimum use of oxygen. Gowda said that Karnataka had successfully controlled coronavirus infection but the sudden spurt in Bengaluru spoiled its efforts. He advised people to be extremely careful as experts have warned about the intensification of the infection in the coming days. He agreed that initially there was a shortage of oxygen and Remdesivir in the state but the centre, after chief minister Yediyurappa and health minister, Sudhakar, brought pressure on it, agreed to provide 1.22 lac Remdesivir to the state. He said that the state's demand for three lac vaccines by April 30 has also been met, duly adding that the state will get 800 metric tonnes of oxygen in 15 days. He also said that the centre will also be meeting additional vaccines demanded by the state. "A high number of deaths have pained us. There are chances of the intensity of the pandemic coming down. The next 10 days are crucial for us," Gowda said.
