Bengaluru, Apr 25: Supreme Court (SC) judge, Justice Mohan M Shantanagoudar, breathed his last at a private hospital in Gurugram in the wee hours of Sunday April 25. He was 62.
Justice Shantanagoudar had been admitted in the intensive care unit of the said hospital with lung infection, sources stated. Till Saturday April 24 midnight, sources confirmed that his health condition was stable. But at about 12.30 am, the doctors informed the family about the demise of the legal luminary. The doctors have not yet confirmed whether he was suffering from Covid-19 or not.
Shantanagoudar had registered himself as a lawyer on September 5, 1980. Born on May 5,1958, he was from Haveri district. He was appointed as an additinal judge of Karnataka high court on May 12, 2003. His services were confirmed in September, 2004. He was transferred to Kerala on August 1, 2016 and he served there as the acting Chief Justice of Kerala high court.
On September 22 that year, he was promoted as the chief justice of Kerala high court. On February 17, 2017, he was appointed as a Supreme Court judge.
Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa has condoled the untimely death of Justice Mohan Shantanagoudar. He said that in his death, the country has lost a judge par excellence, and added that he has prayed to the Lord seeking peace for the departed soul and to grant strength to his family to bear this grief.
