Mangaluru, Apr 25: The weekend curfew imposed with a view to curb coronavirus that is rapidly spreading across the state continued on Sunday April 25, with most people staying indoors.

The city's arterial roads wore a deserted look as shops and establishments kept their shutters down.

Only stores selling essential supplies and pharmacies remained open.

Early morning shoppers were seen thronging the markets to stock up on groceries and other essentials. People are allowed to shop till 10 am during the curfew.

Despite public awareness on the importance of following protocol, several people were seen wearing their masks in an improper manner and some were not wearing them at all.

Except for essential services, all other commercial establishments will remain closed till Monday morning.

A few restaurants with only takeaway services and online food deliveries are functioning.

Police force has been deployed in the entire district to prevent people from unnecessarily coming out from their houses. Under the limits of Mangaluru commissionerate, police have deployed 45 check posts to prevent people from venturing outside without a valid reason. Nearly 5 to 6 cops are deployed at each check post. They will be working in two shifts. Nearly 800 police personnel have been deployed for total bandobast.

The police have booked 1,400 cases for violating mask rule and 80 cases under Epidemic Diseases Act in the last one week. As many as 35 mobile squads and Covid marshals are also deployed.

Yes, good for walking & jogging will keep body and health fit always. Especially lock down period nothing else to do and people utilize free time watching TV and Smart phones and preparing some delicious items. During first lock down most of the people lost weight drastically due to stress and lost taste or non availability of snack and food of their choice on time and started gaining once lock down was lifted. Be careful.

Look at some of these guys with masks. Is there any sense in wearing them this way either below the nose or around the neck? Whom are they fooling, the police, government or the rest of the world? In the end they don't realize that they are fooling themselves and endangering their own lives and the the lives of others whom they come across. This madness is why the situation is what it is today. When will these people ever learn?
