Puttur, Apr 24: A new development has taken place with regards to the Tulu language, which was successful after implementing the same in the syllabus of SSLC. Now the Tulu script keyboard is developed instead of western alphabetical style keyboard. This will be helpful in typing the Tulu script on the computer.
A language laboratory is founded in Kaikara government high school of the taluk using the Kannada Phonetics keyboard. Due to this the students and teachers of this school are able to use 10 Indian languages and English on the computer. Plan is being devised to install the same in other schools also. Zonal educational officer Lokesh shared this information. He has asked the other schools to take financial help from local donors.
This unique keyboard has Tulu, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi, Oriya, Guajarati, Devanagari, Assami, Bengali and English language alphabets. Those who have learnt Tulu can type the same in Tulu script. Those who have not studied Tulu can type it in the Kannada keyboard by opting for Tulu language. The same process can be changed for all the 10 languages.
Dr Guruprasad, phonetics director of Kannada, who has designed the keyboard says, "In the new keyboard all the 52 alphabets are given priority based on Indian languages. Patent is also available for this design."
