Coronavirus tally spikes in Karnataka with record 29,438 new cases

Bengaluru, Apr 24: A record 29,438 new Covid cases were registered in a day across Karnataka, with 17,342 of them in Bengaluru Urban, while 208 patients succumbed to the infection in the state during the day, said the state health bulletin on Saturday.

"With 29,438 patients testing positive on Friday, the state's Covid tally shot up to 13,04,397, including 2,34,483 active cases, while 10,55,612 recovered, with 9,058 discharged in the last 24 hours," said the bulletin.

Bengaluru Urban registered 17,342 fresh cases in a day, taking the city's Covid tally to 6,32,923, including 1,62,171 active cases, while recoveries increased to 4,65,028, with 4,646 discharged during the day.

Of the 208 lives lost to the virus, 149 were in Bengaluru Urban, taking the state's death toll to 14,283 and the city's toll to 5,723 since the pandemic broke out in mid-March a year ago.

Among districts, 1,559 fresh cases were reported in Tumakuru, 791 in Kalaburagi, 731 in Ballari, 536 in Mysuru, 517 in Dakshina Kannada, 684 in Bengaluru Rural, 823 in Hassan, and 688 in Mandya.

As many as 1,280 patients are in the intensive care units (ICUs). Out of 1,89,613 tests conducted during the day across the state, 16,213 were through rapid antigen detection and 1,73,400 through RT-PCR method.

Positivity rate was 15.52 per cent while case fatality rate was 0.70 per cent across the state on Friday.

Meanwhile, 1,04,637 people were vaccinated during the day across the state.

"Cumulatively, 85,63,208 people, including healthcare workers and frontline warriors have received the jab since the vaccination drive was launched on January 16 across the southern state," added the bulletin.

    Karnataka Government is making very good rules to control Covid 19...... lock down, Mask, No gathering. But they are not taking any action against the people who break the rules..... our MLA,s are busy in organizing election campaigns . Some MLA are uttering wrong signal about lock down. I am in Udupi..... Most of the people are telling there is nothing like covid...... Until they get they are spreading wrong news among the people. Mr Ramesh Jarkoli is hospitalized for covid but no statement from Hospital, Government or SIT regarding his health.

    No to worry guys..... half of the population will be eradicated..... Hitler did his way and now in India in a different way.... by not inoculating the population when there was ample time until Feb. 2021. How right Rahul Gandhi was..... they made fun of him and now the public have to suffer...... who is the real pappu ??? Which ever party comes to power next will take another 15 years put the country back on track.... and then the madness of religion will start.... India and Indians will never change.... It will take another 500 years for India and Indians to develop in all aspects...
