Mangaluru, Apr 24: The second wave of coronavirus is spreading like wildfire. The demand for face masks is also increasing in the market. A youth from the city has attracted the attention of the public by manufacturing eco-friendly masks. Seeds of plants are put inside this mask, which grows into a plant even if discarded after use.
Nitin Vas, resident of Kinnigoli near here is the youth, who has invented this unique mask. These masks which are manufactured from cotton are eco-friendly. This has got many specialities.
This mask is manufactured after soaking the cotton in water and making it into paper sheets. Then it is dried for 12 hours. Thin cotton layers are stitched to the back portion of the mask. In the midst of this seeds of plants are also placed. The cost of this use and throw mask is Rs 25. This is completely hand made. So far 3,000 masks are sold by Nitin.
Nitin Vas and his friends own a company called Paper Seed. They had provided employment for many before the lockdown. The aim of the company was to manufacture eco-friendly goods. This company, which started operating in 2017 provided employment to more than 300 women. But after the lockdown it went under loss. Now only a handful of people are working in the company.
