Mangaluru: Demand for oxygen soars in coastal Karnataka too

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 23: As COVID19 has been gripping newer areas at an alarming pace, demand for oxygen has gone up steeply in coastal districts of Karnataka too. As of now, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts however, are not facing any oxygen shortage. Eight medical colleges in the district and the district Wenlock Hospitals have oxygen storage plants where they can store oxygen requirement for 15 days.

The demand for oxygen now is about 6,000 cubic litre in Dakshina Kannada and 4,000 cubic litres in Udupi. Dakshina Kannada district has two units, one which brings liquid oxygen from Kerala and refills it here, and the other which separates oxygen through the compression of natural air and refills it. Most of the hospitals in the twin districts get oxygen from here.

Some hospitals in the city were using one liquid container of 20 cylinder capacity before the advent of coronavirus infection. During the period corona was at its peak last year, they used up four liquid containers per day. Oxygen supplier, Narayana Aithal, says that demand for oxygen has gone up from all the hospitals, adding that at present there is no shortage. He said that if liquid oxygen and other items are available in sufficient quantities on time, supply will not be a problem.

Oxygen cylinders are used for various industries in the state like welding, cutting, fabrication etc. As there was a shortfall in medical oxygen during the corona period last year, the government had instructed to use industrial oxygen cylinders in the hospitals. At present, industries are getting oxygen cylinders. If there is a need for medical use, the district administration might cut down supply to industrial use and divert the same to hospitals.

Deputy commissioner of the district, Dr Rajendra K V, says that there is no shortage of oxygen in the district and that the requirement is met from oxygen produced in the city. He feels that even in the future problems might not arise. He revealed that the district drug controllers committee has been formed as a precautionary measure of which oxygen suppliers from the state and officials are made the members.

Shameful that the PM & HM were more concerned about the West Bengal elections when the citizens were gasping for breath for want of oxygen supply in hospitals. At least now the people should realise what a blunder they committed to electing an irresponsible party that has scant regard for the citizens well being and is more concerned about destroying the economy and now the lives of the people are in peril.

Supreme court is rebuking Modi govt., yet not punishing anyone for the current situation in India. I still remember the issue of one honest doctor, Dr. khafeel Khan who was brutally detained for being honest. Today, nobody is accountable for the chaos the govt. has pushed us into. It is a pity the very people who voted Modi twice are the worst affected, as seen in the in media. Bhashans alone will do no good for India, Jai Hind!!!

Honestly speaking people being admitted for other serious ailments, comobilities are blindly branded as covid19 patients and given wrong treatment. This is main cause of deaths due to wrong medication.2. Most importantly it must be noted that medical covid terrorism is a reality money making racket. Inducing unwarranted fear in public is its prime agenda. 3. I have witnessed a friend Colin, who suffers from comobilities and still boldly tells me that he has survived covid. Indeed he has. So the answer is simple. Covid19 is nothing but terrorism. Treat public for their ailments. Not to brand public as covif patients. Treat the patients as per their diseases. Many half baked medical practitioners are main cause of deaths.

What is the meaning of 6000 cubic litre of oxygen for Dakshina Kannada? Is it for a minute, for an hour or for a day? Please do not be complacent. When the Covid cases multiply the 15 day storage will vanish in no time. Learn from the lessons at Delhi.

The Center has decided to import oxygen plants and containers from Germany heeding SOS from hospitals and citizens from north. Defense minister Rajanath Singh is also chipping in by deploying DRDO personnel and oxygen stock to north India from defense establishments in Bangalore and elsewhere. He has also vowed to set up Covid specialty hospitals in Lucknow, Varanasi and Patna in matter of weeks by utilizing the services of defense engineers from Karnataka and Kerala. Meanwhile Bangalore is gasping for breath and we are seeing near death scenes on roads. Oxygen which was available next door is shipped to save lives up north. We elected 27 MPs of BJP. Among them two are ministers considered to be close to PM. Where are they hiding? When they will resurface? During next election perhaps?

Giving oxygen has to be monitored.Lack of oxygen causes death everyone knows, but excess can cause death too. If not managed properly the incidence of fires also increase as it has happened in many hospitals. Too less is not good, too much is also not good (in any matter).
