Udupi, Apr 22: A hotel in Manipal caught fire due to a short circuit on late Thursday evening.

The Ashlesh Hotel in Manipal is where the incident is said to have occurred. The short circuit was reported from the godown of the hotel. Following the explosion, the people in shops adjacent to the hotel vacated the place.

As per the sources, the shop had cylinders, firecrackers, deodorants and other flammable items which ended up causing more damage to the property. The incident created an environment of panic among the locals.

Three fire engines also rushed to the spot to contain the fire. A box of firecrackers stocked in the godown continued to explode making it difficult to contain the fire.

As a precautionary measure, the power supply for the neighbourhood was cut off.
