Bengaluru, Apr 22: Karnataka has requested to supply additional 1 lakh vials of Remdesivir injections for the treatment of Covid patients, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr K Sudhakar said.

The Health Minister, who left Bengaluru for inspecting hospitals in Mysuru district, told reporters on Thursday that the State Government has already started tendering process for buying 70,000 vials of Remdesivir injections, which are essential for the treatment of Covid patients.

As much as 20,000 vials of Remdesivir injections have already been procured, he said.

To a question on the purchase of vaccines for the citizens, the minister said Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who has just been discharged from the Manipal Hospital after recovering from the Covid positive infection, will be taking a final decision. The Chief Minister has already convened a meeting of the State Cabinet in the evening, he said.

Dr Sudhakar said the all the taluk hospitals in the State have been equipped with oxygen cylinders. Hospitals with 50 beds have been provided the facility. A total of 30,000 beds with oxygen facilities are available in the State’s taluk hospitals, he said.

Dr Sudhakar, who is also in charge of Medical Education Department, said a direction for postponing the post-graduation and final year examinations in all medical colleges by two months has already been given. The medical students of the concerned medical colleges in each district have been asked to be deployed for Covid treatment and management, he said.

The minister appreciated the gesture of former minister M B Patil in voluntarily fixing a rate of Rs 3,000 a day for Covid treatment of the patients besides enhancing the medical facilities in the Medical College run by him in Vijyapura.

All private medical colleges in the State should come forward with similar decisions to help the state government in containing the surge in Covid cases, he appealed.

Dr Sudhakar visited Mysuru district hospital and other hospitals. He said all private hospitals with more than 30 beds have been asked to reserve 80% of the beds for Covid patients.

Ramdesevir is currently only being used in India, it's out of protocol in most advanced countries afterinitialusage! Even AIIMS docs use it sparingly in some specific cases but not routinely! Please do your own research!

Remdesivir and Favipiravir are of doubtful value. It is better to stress on vaccination- at least it will prevent deaths, and even if it is paid for - much cheaper.

Very true, it's found out to be useless after deep research, it was discovered as an antiviral for ebola; it's routinely used only in India for political & commercial gains only! Even AIIMS does not recommend it!
