Bengaluru, Apr 21: Mining and geology minister Murugesh R Nirani has said that the steel companies in the state have agreed to supply 600 tonnes of oxygen necessary for the treatment of Covid patients.
Speaking to reporters at Vikasa Soudha on Wednesday, he said the Jindal Steel Plant in Ballari district has already agreed to supply 400 tonnes per day.
As the oxygen was being used for industrial purposes, the minister said he asked the Jindal management to supply the oxygen for hospitals as a first priority.
"I have also asked other steel companies to pitch in by supplying oxygen,’’ he said pointing out that the Baldota company which had stopped its oxygen plant has also been asked to resume production.
In addition, all the steel companies coming under the purview of his department have also been asked to supply oxygen as the health of the people is very important, Nirani said.
