Chikkamagaluru, Apr 21: In an incident which was reported from near M C Halli in Tarikere taluk of the district on Tuesday April 20, a lorry loaded with beer bottle cases toppled. As a result, beer bottles were found rolling and getting scattered all over the place.
People, unmindful of the lorry and its staff, vied with each other to collect beer bottles. As the news spread, villagers from nearby villages came running. The crowd swelled but the people were not bothered by the risk of coronavirus infection. Tarikere police then reached the spot and tried to control the crowd but by then half of the beer bottles had disappeared.
The police then swung their batons but the crowd continued with their efforts to grab as many beer bottles as possible.
Lorry driver and another staff member were injured in the accident. They are out of danger. A case in this regard was filed in Tarikere police station.
