Students from classes 1 to 9 to be promoted without exams: Education minister Suresh Kumar

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Apr 20: "Due to the increasing scare of a second wave of coronavirus pandemic in the state, the education department has decided to promote students from first to ninth grade without holding any exams. They will be promoted based on the evaluation correction," said education minister S Suresh Kumar.

According to the information available, this decision is taken based on the opinion expressed by the coronavirus pandemic expert committee as it is not possible to hold exams in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic second wave.

Education minister Suresh Kumar has given a verbal order as of now.

SSLC and second PU exams will be held in the state as scheduled as per the information given by the education department.

There is no harm if the students lost a year. Life is too long and we don't want the doctors or engineers who skipped a year but still promoted. That means who studied in year 8 and now directly going to year 10. They missed all the subjects of year 9. In the future if they study medicine or engineering, the chemistry and biology in particular of year 9 will not be re-taught to them. How they are going to catch up with that? Gratia, Mangalore-- do you like to be treated by the doctor who was promoted a year without any study?? There is no harm in missing year because every one in the state will be missing a year. No hard feeling for anyone in that age. You said "no one wants to sit for more than a year in the same class" Yes, practically it is true but to go to the next level, you have to PASS the present level, if not you will be sitting at the same level. This time everyone will be sitting at the same level and no one will feel bad about it because they have to taught, it is LIFE, you just start from the scratch... it can be a valuable life lesson for those children.

Mr. Minister, please clarify as to what academic activity is supposed to be happening until the vacation begins? As of now, just the teachers have been going and sitting in the school for the whole day and coming back. There aren't students going to school. Why don't you instead begin the vacation now itself so that at least teachers' lives can be saved for the election duty, census duty..etc?
