Over Rs 28 lac collected in fines over Covid norm violation in Udupi in a year

Udupi, Apr 20: An amount of Rs 28.31 lac is collected from 26,551 people in the last one year as fine for violating the Covid rules in the district. The police department has collected the highest and transport department has collected lowest amount of fines.

Police have collected Rs 17,66,950 from 16,124 people who violated Covid norms in public places. Fisheries department collected RS 5100 from 51 people, tourism department collected Rs 6,900 from 69 people, excise department collected Rs 1,23,400 from 1,234 people, revenue department collected Rs 97,300 from 968 people and transport department gathered Rs 800 from eight people.

Under gram panchayat limits Rs 4,47,000 was collected in fines. In Udupi taluk 46,100 was collected from 453 people, In Karkala, Rs 93,300 was collected from 940 people, In Kundapur, Rs 80,300 was collected from 799 cases, Kaup collected Rs 36,400 from 360 people, In Brahmavar taluk Rs 52, 500 was collected in 521 cases, in Hebri Rs 27,500 was collected in 271 cases while in Byndoor taluk Rs 1,10,900 was collected in 1,091 cases.

There are five local city administrative bodies in the district. They collected Rs 3,84,050 in 3,662 cases. Udupi city limits collected 1,71,300 from 1,543 cases while Karkala town municipality collected Rs 34,750 from 348 cases, Kundapur town municipality collected Rs 66,500 from 664 cases, Kaup collected Rs 54,600 from 534 cases, Saligram town panchayat collected Rs 36,400 in 364 cases while Byndoor collected Rs 20,500 from 205 cases.

Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha said, "The collected fine for violating Covid rules will be deposited in the treasury of the government. Teams are formed to check the Covid regulations in schools and college campuses. Licences of shops and organizations which do not follow Covid protocol will be cancelled."

    After demonetization the whole unorganized sector suffering from financial crisis by removal of employment and almost no business. The things were gradually improving and at the same time COVID pandemic caused further loosing of employment and business. Onto these the govt imposed heavy fines on these difficult time and enjoying their collections?? Instead they have assisted them to take care the afflicted by providing financial support.

    Well said Mr. Ponkra. Yesterday, Udupi DC caught over crowded bus and make passages to get down in mid of their journey without alternate arrangement for their further journey. Why cannot he catch then in the bus stop itself? Now all departments will be in race to get Name as “I’m at the top in fine collection" as the collection statics indicate who is top and bottom. Finally less fortune are at the target.
