Mangaluru: Beaches of coastal Karnataka to soon be developed - New CRZ plan to come in effect

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Apr 19: Developmental works and tourism-related activities will soon be set in motion for the beaches in coastal Karnataka. Top sources in the tourism department confirmed that the state government has approved the revised plan of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) 2019 of the Centre. The notification in this regard will be taken out in a week's time.

Once the notification is announced, the public has 60 days to raise their objection. A meeting to receive petitions will take place under the presidency of DC. Petitions related to objections and disputes will also be taken by local governing bodies including gram panchayats. Once the objections are received, the district administration is going to send a report to the state government. Then the same will be sent to the central government by the state government after verification. The Centre will finally approve the project.

According to the revised plan, in CRZ-II, there is a provision to build houses or other structures from roads that were built prior to 1991 on beaches. If a road is not available, then new houses or commercial buildings can be built from the building that is constructed on the land which has authorized documents. But there are restrictions for establishing industries.

There is a demand to develop tourism in Karnataka based on the Goa model for many years. Now complimentary to this demand, many rules in the CRZ notification have been relaxed. In specific areas of CRZ-II, provisions are made to build new resorts, homestay and apartments. According to the revised plan, 95% of CRZ in Dakshina Kannada and 30% CRZ in Udupi will be included in CRZ-II. Meanwhile, CRZ-I had more restrictions. In the old CRZ plan, only 60% of the CRZ area in Dakshina Kannada and 10% in Udupi were in CRZ-II.

Locals living in and around the beach areas are concerned that open permission to conduct activities throughout the beach in the name of development might make it difficult to protect the species of sea creatures and plants that are on the verge of extinction. Moreover, if the beaches are seen only from the point of view of increasing commercial income, it might cause disruption of peace for locals. The union government had taken out CRZ notification - 2019 in January 2019. Due to the Covid pandemic, the necessary map release was delayed.

A Gujarathi will look anything with the eyes of the commercialization. If needed the Gujarathis at helm in the country will sell India for a few penny. The current BJP Karnataka as well BJP leaders in the coast are bending backwards to please Modi's Gujarathi appetite of commercialization through his friends Ambani and Adani. Mangalore airport which was already best airport in its category was allowed to be privatized and given to Adani who has no prior experience in airports. Kerala govt fought tooth and nail for Thiruvananthapuram airport control. People in Padubidri fought for their beach not to recieve a blue flag certification which means money making out of a public space just by building toilets and having security guards. Hence a adjacent beach recieved the certification not the main one. Imagine having to live beside the coast and being asked to pay for entering. Mangalore and have relished seafood all their lives since time immemorial and this will become a museum lesson if we don't oppose CRZ rules favouring resort, homestay and commercial development and outside interference. The constant harrassing in case of locals want to repair houses or construct a new one in its place by quoting CRZ and now diluting same CRZ for benefiting commerical development is quintessential Modi style of bulldozing natives of our land who voted him and greet him with great fanfare when he arrives here. It is to drive the locals from the coast. The Karnataka govt. is least bothered as it will make money and shine infront of Modi and realise it dream to damaging coast and local communities(read Tuluvas) more. Our MPs here dance to the tune of Modi however bluntly wrong he would be. Inspite of knowing that the sea is twice as rough here compared to national average and risk to lives of outsiders who would visist here it is being qllowee. The Bangalore govt knows shit about coastal life. This is another making for Kannadigas at the cost of Tuluvas damaging the latter's culture.

First in the name of smart city project ruining life in Mangalore. New CRZ plan comes in effect and to develop the beaches will be a total mess in Mangalore. No international tourists are interested to come on holiday to DK for a holiday since the tourists study and gain information about a place. They know in Mangalore there are moral policing and spoil their holiday.

It seems Privatization of Beaches with fees to be collected to enter those beaches from locals will be on the anvil. Fishermen & other people depending on those spaces might be driven away from those who get tenders for 50 years like our airports were sold to Hamare Do. We can expect Singapore like beaches in future to attract only those who can afford. Expect Bullet Trains to connect all the beaches too.......lol. Despite hefty tolls we still haven't provided world class highways rather we have fleecing the commuters Gates only. Road Taxes aren't used to build roads, Cess & Taxes on fuel isn't used to build infrastructure, Income Tax claims it is collected to provide infrastructure but still we don't have funds for that, but for election rallies, advertisements on media harping some invisible Vikas, buying of MLA s building crores of H Q we have lots of funds. Electoral Bonds are secret affair of govts collection of Bribes legalized by looking other way by our Courts & we are still at the heels of other religious people & their celebrations diversions like some invisible lame viral infections & we never unite to get our rights back from a few who are bossing over us as if they are New Royals. Wake Up People we have only One Chance to build our Nation united, let us focus on the real things & not on diversions.

First tackle the present challenge in hand about Covid then think about developing beaches. People are in lock down locked inside the houses, even UK PM cancelled his trip to India, no tourists will visit India in such conditions but you have one out of the world idea to fake about but it will never materialize anyways in your life time.
