Pre-monsoon showers in Mangaluru, Udupi - Destruction reported in some areas

Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 19: Pre-Monsoon rain showered in many parts of the twin districts on Sunday April 18.

Rain accompanied by thunder and lightning was seen in Beltangady, Dharmasthala, Nedle, Balanja, Mundaje, Gerukatte, Vittal, Manchi, Salethur, Bantwal, Kalladka, B C Road, Puttur, Keyyoor, Kedambadi, Panaje, Ubaradka, Balpa, Kalmadka and Ainekidu. Kadaba and Alangar also received copious amounts of rain. Tiles of roof of Guthigaru Yuvaka Mandala flew due to high velocity winds.

Uppinangady received heavy rains with lightning and thunder for more than one hour. More than 10 electric poles were uprooted due to high speed wind. Traffic got disrupted for some time on Uppinangady-Andetadka road as a huge tree got uprooted and fell across the road. Electricity supply got disrupted in Uppinangady, Ilanthila and Ramakunja.

Moodbidri received half an hour of intense rain on the night of Sunday, including Shirthadi and Hosmar.

Many parts of Udupi district received heavy downpour on Sunday evening. City and surrounding areas received moderate rain. But the lightning and thunder were heavy.

Kota, Katapadi, Brahmavar and Manipal also received moderate rains. Heavy rains lashed Shirur, Byndoor, Kollur, Siddapur, Hosangadi, Yedamoge, Hallihole, Ajri, Amparu, Shankaranarayana, Halady, Goliangadi, Belve, Madamakki, Hengavalli, Ullur, Kundapura, Basrur and Tekkatte. Karkala taluk also received good rain.

    Lightniand thunders were horrible Flavian yesterday. But, it didnt rain well as much it roared.. Anyways...thanks to prakrithi for showering something for us......Rav ran...jawab yeta....vater asa.....corona ne....transport illo dilla asa....savkaas pavtheli....

Lightening not only balances electrical charge between Earth and it's atmosphere, converts Nitrogen to nitrates that are converted to proteins by plants and proteins are building blocks of life, not to forget the Ozone production during lightening and there by blocking harmful UV rays...
