Bengaluru, Apr 16: Deputy chief minister and higher education minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan have underscored the need for immediate treatment of the Covid positive persons, early detection and identification of all infected persons for effective control of the surge in the pandemic.

Holding a virtual meeting with the officials of the Ramanagara district administration under his charge, in which Lok Sabha member and legislators from the district participated, on Friday, Dr Narayan laid out a three-point formula for effective control of the pandemic through early identification, detection and treatment of the infected people.

Dr Narayan, who is a medical doctor, advised that even fever and cold that are considered as most common by almost everybody should not be ignored and such persons must immediately undergo testing. It is necessary to ensure that the testing reports must be made available within a few hours of the test so as to start treatment if the reports were found to be positive.

"It is not correct to categorise the persons as symptomatic or asymptomatic and as soon as any of the symptoms of the Covid disease were noticed, treatment should be started. Early detection and treatment without delay will ensure that the disease will not turn serious and such infected persons may not find the need for admission in intensive care units or even depend on oxygen ventilators for breathing.  This will also minimize fatalities or complications,’’ he said.

The deputy chief minister underscored the need for all persons below 45 years to get themselves vaccinated as per the norms specified by the government and the district administration must gear itself for such protocols,’’ Dr Narayan said.

When legislator Ravi raised the issue of the staff shortage, the deputy chief minister directed the deputy commissioner of the district to make immediate arrangements for posting personnel and if there was a paucity of funds, the money available under the Disaster Management Fund can be used.

Ramanagara district has sufficient beds available for the treatment of Covid infected people. In addition, Dayanand Sagar and Rajarajeshwari Medical Colleges have a sufficient number of beds, he said.

The deputy chief minister asked the district administration and elected representatives to convince the people to get themselves vaccinated.

Deputy commissioner of Ramanagara, Rakesh Singh gave a PowerPoint presentation on the Covid management and containment situation in the district. District MP D K Suresh, legislators Anitha Kumaraswamy, Manjunath and Ravi, zilla panchayat chief executive officer Ikram, SP Girish, DHO Dr Niranjan and other officials participated in the meeting.
