Udupi, Apr 16: Deputy commissioner (DC) of the district, G Jagadeesha, said that he had not come here by using the clout of any political leader nor does he nurse the ambition of joining any political outfit in future. "I want to continue as an officer and like I have done so far, will continue to serve by employing my skills and capacity. At the same time, I have a dream of working as the commissioner in the department of education. Poor children should never be deprived of education. Closed government schools should be reopened, I have the desire of creating vibrancy in education department. Once I retire after attaining the age of superannuation, I will approach the then minister for education with my desire. If I get a chance, I will definitely turn my dream into reality," he said, when taking part in a programme of interaction.
The DC had taken part in the first interaction of tie month organized on Thursday April 15 at Udupi Press Club. Replying to questions of the media persons, he said he has no political influence and had studied for the purpose of earning a livelihood. "I remember the days when we used to struggle to have food thrice a day. Therefore, I do not have any role model. I studied with the desire of undergoing TCH training and becoming a teacher to support my family and look after my parents. After I did my BEd course, I applied for KAS and got 14th rank in the state in my first attempt. After I joined service, I got promotion based on my performance," he said.
Jagadeesha said that as compared to other districts, price of land is high in Udupi district and therefore difficulties are encountered in setting up industries here. He said that land measuring 60 acres has been identified near Byndoor and proposal has been sent to the government to set up industrial zone there. "Food processing industry has a great future in the district. Textile parks in each of the taluks with furniture and stone sculpting park in Karkala are proposed. I want to see that people should look at Udupi when the issue of furniture crops up, not China. We have many people with excellent skills in the district, and our district does have dearth of investors," he explained.
The DC said that the government has sought 500 acres of land for industrial development, but finding such a big land is a big challenge. He said that if the Brahmavar sugar factory cannot be revived, recommendation can be made to the government to use that property.
"The people's representatives here have lot of social concern and they are working as a link between the officials and the people. The people's representatives here match my concept of how they should be," he appreciated.
He said that penalizing those who do not wear marks is to create awareness, not for making money, as the fine amount is very meagre for the government. He observed that some people are indulging in malicious campaigns on this issue, even though the fines are imposed to make people aware of their mistakes. He said that wearing of marks, using sanitisers and vaccinating those above 45 are the only means to combat the pandemic.
He noted that no work moves ahead without the participation of migrant labour and there is a need to create awareness among them. He added that he has plans to distribute masks to them in association with health department.
Assistant director of information department Manjunath N, District Working Journalists Union president Alevoor Rajesh Shetty, Press Club convener Subhashchandra Wagle, general secretary Nazeer Polya, treasurer Umesh Marpalli etc were present.
