Bantwal, Apr 15: The family of Shantinagar Mittakatta Sajipamannur resident, Lalitha and Somappa are poor. The husband and wife are daily wage workers. But they were happy with two of their young children staying in a rented house. The younger sister of Lalita was to get married during the upcoming May.
However, disaster struck the family by way of lightning last Saturday. Electric gadgets, furniture and household items were gutted in it. The gold ornaments kept in the cupboard turned black from yellow. All of the clothes other than the ones worn by them are burnt. As even the cash kept for the wedding turned to ashes, the family is in distress. As they did not receive any compensation from the government, local entrepreneur Navin informed local Guru Beladingalu, local philanthropists. Though the organization is not yet established, it has come to the rescue of the family.
They have donated Rs 50 thousand as immediate help to recover from the trauma. Former union minister, B Janardhan Poojary commended the efforts. “You have done the work that God Almighty likes. Continue the noble work. The Almighty will not stop supporting you,” he said in his blessings.
