Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Apr 12: After finding that over 150 Salem breed chicken had been discarded by the side of national highway 73 near Mundaje village in the taluk on Sunday April 11, people rushed to the spot and collected as many poultry birds as possible. In the meanwhile, sighting of some carcasses of the chicken in the area gave rise to a sense of panic.

At around 11 am on Sunday, news spread in the area that chicken had been discarded by the roadside. People from the area and those passing by in their vehicles filled their bags with chickens before heading home.

At the same time, over 50 dead chicken were found near the area. Several of the chicken looked like they were sick. Local gram panchayat president informed the veterinary officer but no official came there till Sunday evening. The officials said that the gram panchayat has been instructed suitably.

The spot where the dead birds were found is in the middle of the forest where carcasses of monkeys and birds were found earlier. About a month back, six monkey carcasses were found on Kayartody road near here.

There is no information how so many game chickens came there. Some have guessed that the birds would have been discarded by those who were taking them for sale in a vehicle after finding that they had become sick. Ranjini Devi, president of Mundaje gram panchayat has advised the people not to eat these birds as dead chicken were found after people took away live ones. As they died under suspicious circumstances, the spot was inspected and the veterinary officer has been informed, she stated.

Roadside Chinese vendors buy sick and half dead chicken at very low prices to keep selling rates low and our intelligent people flock to them for cheap stuff not knowing how much harmful it is to health; even the noodles and oil they use is spurious! Better stay away to avoid serious health issues! Actually, roadside chicken stalls should be banned temporarily in interest of public health!

People can eat this chicken, but with precautions. While cleaning, please see to it that you wear a pair of gloves. Do not get any fluid from the meat fall on your body. After cleaning, wash yourselves. At no point make direct skin contact with the mean. Once you cook the meat at high temperatures, it is good to eat.

Shankaranna mangalore, you forgot here something not only gloves but important is to wear mask .Mask atleast is important because if the bird is having any virus infection ,one can inhale through nose and cause hefty problems ,get lungs problems.First of all why did the health officers not came there to clear to people or investigate the reason.By dumping carcass there ,other birds too can become sick through virus infection. One should investigate this before other birds get sick.

Chicken farm owners should have culled all the sick chicken and burried so that humans would not try to use such chicken for consumption. The owners should be booked for all such careless action and putting people in grave health risks. Why he never attempted to sell his poultry on they were healthy

Let those who collected the cocks and hen observe the birds for few days before halalifying them. If they are sick, they would die on their own.
