Bantwal, Apr 12: A female baby was born in the 108 ambulance service attached to Farangipet hospital in the taluk on Sunday April 11.
A woman from Uruvalu village in Beltangady taluk had visited the government hospital at Puttur for her delivery. She was advised to go to Mangaluru as the services of a doctor were not available there. The woman who arrived near the tollgate at Bantwal by the Puttur ambulance was shifted to the 108 ambulance of Bantwal.
But before the ambulance reached Mangaluru, technician of the ambulance, Keshava, noticed that the woman had gone into labour. He attended to her through the process of childbirth, and helped the mother and her healthy female baby to get admitted into Lady Goschen Hospital, Mangaluru.
