Fraudsters create fake Facebook account in Udupi DC's name, seek money

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Apr 11: A fake Facebook account was created in the name of deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha. The username used on Facebook was G Jagadeesha Malalagadde.

The fraudster who created the account reached out to people seeking financial help. The concerned asked people to send money through the PhonePe app and also provided a number to which the amount is to be sent.

"Can you transfer 7K. I need urgent," was the message to the people from the fake Facebook account.

Lately, frauds of this kind have been on the rise and seem to target the influential and those working for the government.
It may be recalled that fake Facebook accounts were created in the name of police officials to request money.

To alert the people of the fraud, DC Jagadeesha via a Facebook post shared screenshots of the messages and informed that he had filed a complaint in this regard. He also urged the people to not transfer money in such situations.
