Mangaluru, Apr 11: The night curfew imposed in order to contain the spread of coronavirus infection within the limits of the police commissionerate here was enforced by the police strictly on the night of Saturday April 10.

The police checked vehicles in all the checkposts. Under the guidance of senior police officers, the police have been taking all measures to implement the curfew in letter and spirit. Unnecessary movement of people and vehicles was thwarted. Those found violating the curfew hours were detained and warned.

Because of the strict implementation of the curfew, many shopkeepers and workers were seen closing down their businesses earlier than usual and returning home.

In view of the night curfew that has been clamped within the city limits, a police roll call was organized at Padua school ground on Saturday, in which policemen from within the limits of the city commissionerate took part.

Police personnel have been deployed in 45 checkposts spread across the city corporation area. About 480 police personnel have been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the implementation of the night curfew. As many as 18 among them are inspectors, 40 are sub-inspectors, four assistant commissioners of police and two deputy commissioners of police.

Including the inspector, 11 staff have been provided to each of the checkposts.

Chief sectetary of Karnataka, P Ravikumar, has issued orders stipulating that vehicles transporting their night shift employees should necessarily possess authorisation from the respective companies. The employees moving about on night duty should have identity cards issued by their respective companies. During the period they are outside their homes, they should follow COVID-related stipulations without fail. They also are required to wear masks at all times as per the said order.

Udupi

Udupi wore a deserted look as people adhered to the night curfew imposed by the state government for curbing the spread of coronavirus.

Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesh himself went on inspection to ensure the effective implementation of night curfew norms.

The DC visited Kalsanka and Manipal checkposts. At Manipal checkposts he inspected vehicles that were plying even after 10 pm.

The DC instructed the commuters to reach their destinations before 10 pm in the coming days. Travellers with valid tickets and those in need of essential supplies or services were allowed for commute based on their documents.

The DC also warned people that their vehicle would be seized if they repeat the violation.
