Mangaluru, Apr 10: The night curfew due to rising coronavirus cases will be in force in Mangaluru from Saturday, April 10. The night curfew will be between 10 pm to 5 am and will be in effect till April 20.
Over 45 check posts have been set up in the Mangaluru city corporation limits. As many as 480 police personnel have been deployed to keep an eye on night curfew violations, 18 inspectors, 40 sub-inspectors, 4 ACPs and 2 DCPs. Each checkpost will be manned by 11 police personnel including a police inspector.
A roll call meeting of police who are on night shift was conducted by police commissioner N Shashi Kumar IPS, Hariram Shankar IPS, DCP (Law & Order), Vinay A Gaonkar, DCP (Crime & Traffic) at Padua school ground.
Addressing the cops, the commissioner said, "We already have given clear instructions to the public through news media and social media. We also solved doubts the people had regarding the night curfew. Medical emergency services, transportation of essential items, employees who are working night shifts, people who have valid tickets and are travelling to the airport, railway station and bus stand are exempted from the curfew. Apart from these five categories the movement of the public is completely restricted. All police officials should act responsibly and take precautions to prevent getting infected with Covid-19. I urge officials to wear a mask and use sanitisers. The health of the police personnel is very important for us."
At the same time, police should also try to understand how to handle people they encounter during the curfew. They should act wisely and have patience in such situations.
Police have blocked the entry points to the city and deployed cops in a huge number.
