Mangaluru, Apr 10: The night curfew due to rising coronavirus cases will be in force in Mangaluru from Saturday, April 10. The night curfew will be between 10 pm to 5 am and will be in effect till April 20.

Over 45 check posts have been set up in the Mangaluru city corporation limits. As many as 480 police personnel have been deployed to keep an eye on night curfew violations, 18 inspectors, 40 sub-inspectors, 4 ACPs and 2 DCPs. Each checkpost will be manned by 11 police personnel including a police inspector.

A roll call meeting of police who are on night shift was conducted by police commissioner N Shashi Kumar IPS, Hariram Shankar IPS, DCP (Law & Order), Vinay A Gaonkar, DCP (Crime & Traffic) at Padua school ground.

Addressing the cops, the commissioner said, "We already have given clear instructions to the public through news media and social media. We also solved doubts the people had regarding the night curfew. Medical emergency services, transportation of essential items, employees who are working night shifts, people who have valid tickets and are travelling to the airport, railway station and bus stand are exempted from the curfew. Apart from these five categories the movement of the public is completely restricted. All police officials should act responsibly and take precautions to prevent getting infected with Covid-19. I urge officials to wear a mask and use sanitisers. The health of the police personnel is very important for us."

At the same time, police should also try to understand how to handle people they encounter during the curfew. They should act wisely and have patience in such situations.

Police have blocked the entry points to the city and deployed cops in a huge number.

This lockdown 10pm to 5 am has no much impact on virus as this virus affects the people in the crowd. The officials have to conduct discipline of social distancing and Mask among people and specially see the public transport... There's no way to follow the system given the scarcity of public transport for a common man who has to depend on public transport to earn his living.

Night curfew is of no use, it will not bring down covid numbers. It's waste of money, time and resources.

Seems mostly through shutdowns only virus lingered this long, otherwise with the herd immunity by this time virus would have gone by this time. Some countries defied communist playbook shutdowns. They did not suffer economic downturn or hardships that communist chinese wanted rest of world suffer and in order to control the world also make rest of the world financially bankrupt. Communist Chinese strategy seems to be choke finances, create food shortages, through shutdowns, create chaos, internal strifes then one becomes weak then invasions to control the key countries then rest of the world, without much efforts, that's what these viruses all about, if more they plan it is not surprising. Inspite of full police force, if virus says I am not going, come what may and cases keep on increasing, only our country' s economy and citizens will be suffering

I thought only the political leaders are fooling the public, now I came to know even the police commissioner is fooling the public. Kankanady bypass road people gathered in huge numbers without social distance and without wearing mask to take part in a hindu ritual "Kola". It has started at around 7pm and will go on full night. Where is the night curfew???? So the night curfew and the laws are only for few communities.
