Mangaluru, Apr 9: NSUI committee on the occasion of its Foundation Day and having completed 50 years held a programme of distributing scholarship to students at Congress Bhavan here.
KPCC spokesperson, Sudhir Kumar Maroli said that the movement initiated by students in Kerala and West Bengal nearly 50 years ago came to the notice of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. “She did not want to leave them as they were and started a Students' Congress Federation to identify them in Congress. The nationalism, democracy and secular policies should be conveyed to them when they are students and help them to mould their future,” said former minister Ramanath Rai.
Congress leader Mithun Rai also spoke on the occasion.
Former MLA, Shakuntala Shetty, Hemanath Shetty, NSUI president, Savad Sullia, Sadashiva Ullal, T K Sudhir, Neeraj Pal, Shubhodaya Alva, Mohammed Kunjathbail, Ramananda Poojary, Lawrence D’Souza, Hariprasad, Vinay, Kaushik and others were present.
