Beltgangady, Apr 9: Dharmasthala PSI Pavan Nayak and staff under directions and guidance from their senior officials arrested two people accused of robbing a bag containing gold ornaments worth Rs 3.2 lac from a devotee who had come to the Dharmasthala temple.
The 36-year-old Sirsi resident, Kalpana Chandrashekar Naik had visited the temple on April 1 at 7 am. Around 7.30 am, Kalpana's mother Bhavani was standing outside the temple with the bag when the thieves snatched it and fled. The bag had a gold chain with a Lord Ganesha pendant, a gold bracelet weighing 40 gm and another ornament. The gold in the bag weighed 85 grams and was worth Rs 3.2 lac.
A police complaint under registration no. 21/ 2021 Section 379 was registered in this connection at Dharmasthala police station.
The arrested accused have been identified as Siddarth (26) and Drakshayini Korachara (26) of Asundi village, Gadag. An Innova car bearing the registration number 51A 4048 and stolen gold jewellery was recovered by the police. The suspects have been produced before the court, which will decide their quantum of sentence.
