Mangaluru, Apr 8: A case has been registered in Mulky police station, charging an accused involved in an old case who is on the run, and his relatives of assaulting the police personnel who had visited the spot to serve him notice, and obstructing them from discharging their duties.

The accused in the case, Ansar, had evaded appearance in the court relating to a case of street fight. The police who got information about his arrival at his residence, went to his home to serve the notice. At that time, he sneaked into the house of a close relative next to his house, closed the door, and threatened at knifepoint to slice his throat if the police came in. He also inflicted injury on his body with the knife. The police have claimed that his father, Sadiq, had supported his son in this act.

Later, inspector Kusumadhar, along with some other police personnel, reached the spot. Even then the accused repeated his suicide threat. The women of the house, Mumtaz and Zubeda, who were inside, did not open the door. Therefore, assistant sub-inspector Ashok K and constable Satish entered the house from the backdoor and pulled the knife from the hand of the accused. At this time, they were injured.

The accused has been arrested and case of obstructing policemen on duty has been registered.
