Beltangady, Apr 7: Heavy rains, storm and lightning wreaked havoc on villages in Badekodi and Kashipatna on the afternoon of Wednesday.
Several trees and light poles that were uprooted fell in the middle of the road. However, they were soon cleared with the help of an excavator.
The roof of Rathna Naik's house in Badekodi village was blown away due to strong winds. An electric pole fell on the house of Asha Naik. Coconut and other trees of Kamala Naik and trees in the compound of Aithu Shetty were uprooted, the cement sheet at Devaki's house blew away, Sripathi's shed, cement sheets of Janaki and Sudhesh Poojary were damaged. About 100 areca nut trees and 50 trees of Sripathi Upadhyaya uprooted because of the storm. Roofs of other houses and tiles were also damaged.
District panchayat members Dharanendra Kumar along with his friends visited the affected areas and helped in getting the trees and light poles removed so as to make way for traffic. He even contacted the tahsildar and the AC to provide suitable compensation for the ones affected by the rains.
Former panchayat member, Sripathi Upadhyaya, locals, Vasudev Naik, Raghavendra Naik and others helped to vacate trees and light poles from the road.
