Campaign for separate Tulu state comprising of DK, Udupi, Kasargod trends on Twitter

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Apr 7: Tulu organizations have started a campaign on Twitter urging the formation of a separate Tulu Rajya consisting of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod districts as the state and central governments are totally neglecting the language, which is one of the Pancha Dravida languages.

A message was sent on social media by Tulu organizations urging Tuluvas living across the globe to take part in the 'Tulu Rajya' tweet campaign on April 4. A good response was observed for this request. The CM of Karnataka, state home minister, Prime Minister and union home minister were urged to look into this appeal. A total of 84,000 people have tweeted in support of this request. In the highest tweet ratings for April 4, Tulu Rajya tweet has secured the second spot. However, Kannadigas have opposed this request of Tuluvas.

In the campaign, most of the Tuluvas tweeted, "Government has not considered the request by Tuluvas to include the Tulu language in the eighth schedule, even though this has been requested since five decades. In the world Tulu convention, a decision was taken to add the language to the eighth schedule. But the demand was not fulfilled by the state and union government. How much do we have to beg for Tulu to get its due honour? Why didn't the Karnataka government identify Tulu as an official language when the state was formed? Justice cannot be served just by saying that Tulu is a sister language. Declare a separate Tulu Rajya consisting of the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod."

The tweet campaign also highlighted that the state and union governments are not giving any value to the decisions taken at the world Tulu conventions held at Dharmasthala, Adyar and Dubai. All the MLAs of Tulunadu had urged the state government to add the language to the eighth schedule. But the state government is not bothered. That is why a separate Tulu state needs to be formed, the tweets maintained.

A strong response was seen for the Tulu Rajya tweet campaign. #Tulunadu, #Stopkannadaimposition and #savetulufirst have received 35,000, 27,000 and 22,000 tweets respectively in one day. The tweets are trending and are in the second spot in the country and first place in Karnataka. Maharashtra Ekikarana Yuva Samiti (MES) has also tweeted in support of this campaign.

Dilraj Alva, honorary advisor, Yuva Tulunadu said, "As the campaign for separate Tulu state started on Twitter many netizens have expressed fierce objection. They have advised not to break Karnataka but stressed giving importance to the Tulu language in front of the state government. Some netizens have expressed their rage through tweets in support and against both Tulu and Kannada languages. On the whole, the Twitter campaign of Tulu Rajya has initiated a huge discussion."

Tuluvas should take it upon themselves to fight for their region. Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) is a rogue organization. They take help from Shiv sena. Aligning with such organisations does more harm than good. They want Karwar and Belgaum only because Karwar can be exploited for tourism and Belgaum is developed compared to dustbowl Kolhapur. Dont take help from separatists Tamils who ask for Dravida Nadu cut from India. Tuluvas are patriots and proud Indians. We can employ our own native people in any industry as they are talented and hardworking. We dont face any problem of local Ghatis in Bombay who have bullied us in the past as they themselves are lazy and untalented and only good at extortion from bars and restaurants.

I was reading all the comments I am a Mangalorean Konkani(so called Goan Origin). I am blessed to be part of Tulunadu. To have Tuluva friends and Tulu Neighbors. Infact my Goan Ancestors were saved from brutal Tipu Sultan by brave Tuluvers. My community thanks the Tuluva community. We all Konkanis,Tulus,,Malyalis,Bearys live in peace here. Those Konkanis who don't support Tulu State shall leave for Goa. The only opposition to Tulu Rajya is coming from Kannadigas purely out of Linguistic/Ethnic Jealousy. Even Marathis and Tamils are supporting Twitter campaign for Tulu in 8th schedule. It is high time. This demand is from 1942 quit India movement. Kannadigas supressed us with step motherly treatment all these years. We are the oldest Dravidian language and have no recognition. It is utter shame. Thanks to Nalin Kumar Kateel ,Kota Srinivas poojary....Vedavyas kamath(a Konkani), prithvi ambar and rakshith Shetty. Kannadigas have stolen our water like Mhadei and Kaveri. Diverted our Netravathi for yettinahole project for their drinking purpose. Their greed is too much. They destroyed our factories by endosulfan. They renamed bajpe airport. Our cities need to be renamed to Moodibidri,Kudla,Odipu. Yakshagana and Kambala are our richness. Spirit bootha worship, our daivas. Kannadigas will not understand all this. Kannadigas are fighting with Marathi over belagavi, with Goa over Mhadei and karwar, with Telangana over Krishna, with Andhra over Polavaram and Hanuman birthplace, with Andhra over ballari, with Coorg over codavaland. Jai Tulunad.

KBR, Mangaluru Konkani people can go back to Goa where they came from if they oppose tulunadu. Konkani is already a recognised language in a state. Konkanis know very well they have been provided shelter here in tulunadu when they ran away from Portuguese inquisition both Hindus and converted people .Why is that Konkanis have prospered more in or from tulunad and ethnically from Tulunadu than home state goa and konkanis accept this fact and are very grateful about it. It is daiva shetra and the blessings of the region upon everyone. Konkanis are called country cousins of Maharashtrians yet Marathi is official in Goa and you don't have problem with that and we know how much seperate indentity Konkanis have in coastal Maharashtra as they are called Maharashtrian. How much Konkani indentity Gavaskar and Tendulkar have as they are ethnically Konkani or even Sardesai from Goa branded as Marathi. Do they even speak Konkani at home. Marathi has bulldozed Konkani. Tuluvas have succeeded in every field right from sports to education to banking, restaurants etc and many more and yet successful Konkanis from Tulunadu are recognised as Konkanis not Tuluvas because Tuluvas aren't fame hungry Like Marathis for other's fame as their own. Tuluvas ruled Tulunadu till the British East Indian Company. There are 53 communities in Tulunadu living in harmony inspite of Tuluvas being hot blooded in matters of religious importance or its protection. The highest riots till date which happened in Surathkal claimed 8 lives as compared to communal Kerala where Hindus were massacred in million in Moplah revolt. Tulu should be official In Tulunad eitheir in Karnataka or as a seperate state.Period.

Yes. To preserve our Tulu language and identity separate state for Tulu speaking people is must. If kannadiga wanted separate state in India then what is wrong in separate state for Tulu people. It is like someone wanting kannadiga and Telugu be one state.i if you say we divide Karnataka. Nobody should tolerate imposition of kannadiga in our daily life. We should have freedom.

It’s high time Kannadigas give up their hegemony and declare Karnataka as a multilingual state thereby according due recognition to Tulu, Konkani, Kodavu and Beary languages. Further there’s no sense in calling the district as Dakshina Kannada (DK) or even Uttara Kannada (UK) where Kannada is a minor language. These districts should be renamed as Tulu Nadu and Konkan respectively. I am not in favour of any division of the state but demand that the existence of all languages in the state be recognized.

States were made based on the language spoken. By that logic present Karnataka should be Konkani, beary , tulunad. but wait a second what will happen to konkani ppl staying in tulunadu, or viceversa. I think this entire statehood should be removed. There should be one country, one PM and no CM.

If any atrocities are done by the fringe groups, we can at least contact our Kannadiga friends in ghatta or Bengaluru to help us. Once Tulu Rajya comes means gone.. Jai all languages.

karNataka's plans to change the names of places by kannadifying our beloved places's names is undesirable and smacks of its imperialistic attitude. there was no need to change Mangalore's name as Mangalaooroo and moodubidri's name to moodabidire other than to alter the culture of Tulu region. there was a nostalgia and legacy to the old names like Canara, Mangalore etc. so many of the Banks, institutions that originated from our place had the name Canara. its surprising that rather than oppose the move tooth and nail to change the name of our beloved city, every media house is queuing to use the new kannadified name. why are the wishes of Kannada people imposed on Canara region. we dont identify ourselves as kannadigaru. its a known fact that tulu was never imposed on our Konkani, Byari , Urdu and moyar Malayala speaking brothers and sisters of Undivided South Canara. we all converse with each other in Tulu due to the sheer and undying love for the culture. that bond between the various communities will never be broken. lets save Tulu language and Tulunadu culture from being bulldozed by some selfish people.

I support creation of new state Tulunadu. This will result in more focus on development in coastal region. Currently when there is big investment in Karnataka, everyone wants Bengaluru only though there is no space in Bengaluru. Once Tulunadu is created, definitely we can fight for creation of separate Railway Division with Mangaluru as headquarters, build new international cricket stadium etc. I am sure the Port and International Airport also will develop faster. Lot of companies including IT would be happy to setup centers in coastal region.

Now it is a high time to question about lack of development in the public sector..we got no proper rails, air route, roads.whatever we can find are in private. Lots of people go to places like Bangalore and Mumbai doesn't mean that the cities don't have potential of providing vacancy but its the old Mysore politics that wont allow development of industries in these region.
