Kannur, Apr 7: Customs at Kannur airport on Wednesday intercept three separate cases of gold smuggling in a single day. The officials seized 2.8 kg of gold worth Rs 1.3 crore.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Ashraf, Rajeesh and Mohammad Kalnad. Ashraf who had arrived from Sharjah to Kannur in flight no IX 746 was found with a gold compound concealed under his feet.
The other accused Rajeesh who had arrived on a GoAir flight was found with gold concealed in four capsules in compound form in his rectum.
The third passenger, Mohammad Kalanad was arrested following inputs from the Intelligence Agency. He had arrived from Sharjah in a GoAir flight and was smuggling gold in compound form by concealing it in packets glued under his feet.
The assistant commissioner, Madhusoodana Bhat lead the team of officers.
