Mangaluru Apr 6: Mangaluru City Corporation opposition leader AC Vinayaraj demanded a probe into the fire mishap at the Pachanady waste recycling unit.
Addressing media here on Tuesday, April 6, AC Vinayaraj said, "A massive fire broke out at the Pachanady waste recycling unit on the night of April 4. The unit was outsourced to a private firm and was run by nature-friendly recycle industry and their agreement was extended for three months. The recycling unit has violated all the safety measures with no proper facilities pertaining to fire safety. When the fire mishap took place, there were no proper facilities of water or water tap at the site to douse the fire. Even after the fire service arrived at the spot there were no facilities for the refilling of water."
"The unit has no CCTV, no security guards, the officials have not been able to confirm the number of security guards present during the incident. There is a bore well and pump at the site, but the local corporator has illegally taken out the pump and shifted it to another place. If there is a fire on the site the residents will face health issues," said AC Vinayaraj.
