Udupi, Apr 6: Social worker, Vishu Shetty Ambalapady, has requested for providing shelter and free treatment to Narsi Marakalti (75), who has no one to support her, and who had suffered a fracture in her pelvic bones eight months back.

Addressing the media on Tuesday April 6, Shetty said that the lady from Shirirayara Kajaravalli had got admitted into Ajjarkad government government  hospital eight months back after fracturing her pelvic bones. He said that the district hospital did not have the facility to perform the surgery and advised her to get the treatment done at a private hospital. But she doesn't have anyone to support her and hence spent eight months in agony at the hospital.

Vishu Shetty, who was determined to provide her treatment even if it necessitated raising of loan, admitted her into a private hospital where a team led by Dr Umesh Prabhu performed the surgery which cost about Rs 1.5 lac. Shetty said some of the money has come from donors and more money is required. "She needs rest for four months and a nurse to take care of her. Now, date has been fixed for her discharge from the hospital. People's representatives, district administration and other departments should come forward to help her," he pleaded at the press conference.

Shetty said that the district does not have a government rehabilitation centre and government hospital for treatment of psychiatric patients. He added that the district administration has the responsibility to save a life. "I request the philanthropists and the departments to immediately come to the lady's rescue, arrange to provide shelter to Narsi Marakalti. There are hundreds who spend life without treatment. The government should treat such cases as special cases and provide them free treatment," he requested.
