Panaji: Customs officials nab 21-year-old flier smuggling gold

Panaji, Apr 6: The customs officials at the Goa International Airport at Dabolim nabbed an air passenger who was allegedly smuggling gold in the form of a capsule by concealing it in his rectum. The accused had flown in from Dubai.

The officials recovered a gold capsule valued at Rs 3.4 lac from the 21 year-old-male, the commissioner of customs, Mihir Ranjan said. The flier has been taken for further interrogation.

Ranjan said that the flier is a resident of Kasargod in Kerala. “Further investigation is in progress. This is the third gold seizure by the Goa Customs in a fortnight,” said Ranjan. In January, a Kolkata resident was nabbed by the customs officials with over 2 kg of gold valued at Rs 95 lac.
