Udupi, Apr 5: Marvel D’Souza of Udupi has emerged the winner of 'Crasto’s Bhangrali Kogul-2021' organized by the ICYM Golden Jubilee Committee, Udyavara. While Diyal D’Souza of Bondel and Carol Sequeira of Valencia bagged second and third place respectively.
Marvel D’Souza was awarded Rs 10,001 and a trophy. Diyal D’Souza won Rs 7,007 and a trophy and Carol Sequeira was awarded Rs 5,005 and a trophy.
Melody and Jumping rounds were two different rounds in which the top 12 finalists performed.
This was the 50th program that is part of the year-long celebration of the Golden Jubilee Committee. The finale of the competition was held on Sunday, April 4 at the ICYM Udyavara Golden Jubilee stage before the preliminary rounds of the event.
Wilfred Crasto, brother of sponsor Norbert Crasto inaugurated the event. Speaking on the occasion Fr Xavier Pinto, rector St Anthony Shrine Kerekatte said, “I congratulate each and everyone who has worked for the success of this event. I was studying theology in seminary when the ICYM movement was started in our parish. Udyavar is a very old church. There are more than 40 priests and sisters at this parish. The practise should continue. Currently, only 2 of the youths in this parish are studying in seminary. In the upcoming days more youths from Udyavara should make up their mind to join the seminary,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion Fr Stany B Lobo, chancellor, diocese of Udupi and parish priest, Udyavara said, “Each and every member of the committee has worked for the success of this event. In the upcoming days, the same momentum should continue towards the development of the church,” he said.
Roy Castelino, former president, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy addressing the gathering said, “I was surprised to see that 50 programs were organized in a year. Many talented singers are here to compete. We need to promote talented persons. Although the future is in Artificial Intelligence, the youths should also focus on competitive fields like IAS, KAS and alike. ICYM should promote intelligent students of the community for competitive exams. There are very few examples of our community leaders in civil service,” he said.
Fr Valerian Mendonca, dean, Kallianpur deanery and parish priest, Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur, Dolwin Kolalagiri, music director, Prajoth D’Sa, singer and Joshal D’Souza, actor and singer were judges for the event. Ace anchor and host Alwyn Danthy was the MC for the event. The band Silver Tones by Joel Attur performed at the event.
Sharing his experience about the competition Fr Valerian Mendonca, dean, Kallianpur deanery and parish priest, Milagres Cathedral Kallianpur said, “I congratulate ICYM Golden Jubilee Committee for organizing 50 programs even during the pandemic. Many will run the race but only the first 3 will be awarded prizes. Every artist's singing is unique. All the 12 finalists should make it to greater heights in the music industry. The contestants should select meaningful songs for the competition,” he said.
Thanushree Pithrody, a six-time record holder, Likith Karkera Pithrody of Kannada Kogile fame, Robert Castelino, civil worker and Sr Maria Shruthi AC, principal, St Agnes Special School, Mangaluru were felicitated on the occasion. Royston Lewis, ICYM senior member honoured on the occasion.
Norbert Crasta and his family were the sponsors of the competition. All the 12 contestants were awarded gift hampers.
Anil Roshan D’Souza, Paneer, Pramila D’Souza Paneer were honoured for suggesting the title 'Bhangrali Kogul' name for the event.
