Kasargod, Apr 5: Preparations have been completed for the Kerala assembly election being held from April 6. Polling will take place from 7 am to 7 pm.
Election-related materials were distributed on Monday April 5 at five centres in the district. By afternoon, the materials were delivered at the respective polling booths. Five centres have been opened for the five assembly constituencies in the district. Materials related to Kasargod constituency were distributed at the government college, Kasargod, those of Uduma at Periya government polytechnic college, items relating to Kanhangad constituency at Padannakkad Nehru Arts and Science College, material for Trikaripura constituency at Trikaripura government polytechnic college.
In all, 1,591 polling booths have been kept ready in five constituencies.
The district has a total of 1 0,59,967 voters out of whom 5,18,501 are men and 5,41,460 are women. Among them, six are transgenders.
A total of 9,700 staff have been deployed on election duty.
This time, in comparison to previous poll, an additional hour of polling has been allowed. Voting will take place from 7 am to 7 pm. The last one hour has been reserved for COVID19-affected persons and those who were in primary contact with them.
Manjeshwar constituency has 2,21,682 voters of which 1,10,682 are women. In Kasargod, there are 2,01,812 voters of which 1,02,233 are women. In Uduma, out of total voters of 2,14,209, 1,09,580 are women. Kanhangad constituency has 2,18,385 voters of which 1,13,732 are ladies. Trikaripura has 2,02,249 voters.
The district has 64 sensitive polling booths. Live webcasting facility has been provided for 738 polling booths. In 853 booths, CCTV cameras have been fitted. Close watch is kept on 20 polling booths on the border. Checking has been intensified at the state border to stop money, liquor and other things being transported by way of lure. 3,400 policemen have been deployed in the district for security. Central forces contingent having 712 personnel has also been stationed.
