Hassan, Apr 5: On Sunday, a person who had kept gelatin stocks from a godown near Bakenahalli Katte in Holenaraipur tlauk in the district died on the spot as the sticks exploded all of a sudden. Two others who were near the deceased suffered injuries, and were treated in a hospital.

Sampath (27), resident of Bettada Halli, Shravanabelagola, died in the incident. Natraj (27) has been admitted in a hospital in Hassan. Ravikumar from Chakenahalli who was near the godown suffered serious injuries. He was rushed to Bengaluru for advanced treatment

As soon as the motor bike rider, who brought the gelatin sticks either for blasting of the stone or fishing, kept them on his bike and kicked the starter when the blast happened. Locals helped in transporting the injured to hospital.

Explosives were stocked in this godown for selling to people involved with stone quarries and contract works. The licence holder who has kept the explosives here is Nagesh from Chakenahalli. Town police visited the spot and scrutinized the scene.
