Mangaluru, Apr 3: District administration has collected Rs 40 lac in fines for violation of face mask rule in the district. The number of cases recorded so far are 40,000. As of March 31, the number of face mask violation stood at 40,368 and the total amount collected is Rs 42,11,630 according to the official statistics released by the district administration.
District administration is taking stringent action against violation of Covid rules in the wake of increasing number of coronavirus cases in the district. That is why there is a considerable increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the district and also hike in the amount of fine collection. However, the number of cases is not decreasing in spite of fines.

On March 22, deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Rajendra K V himself had visited the market area, malls, buses and shops and conducted operation against the violation of face mask wearing rule. Now the operation is being continued by various police and other department officials.
At one end the district administration is trying its best to contain the spread of the pandemic. However, on the other it seems the public is not bothered. According to statistics 577, 579, 529 and 373 cases of violation of face mask wearing rules are registered on March 28, 29, 30 and 31 respectively.
"Face mask is not worn because the government asks citizens to wear. Instead, masks should be worn to protect our respective families. At home, there are children below the age of 10 and elders above the age of 60. It is very important to wear masks for the sake of their health," said the DC.
