Kadaba, Apr 3: A four-decade old water tank located next to Kadaba town panchayat office is on the brink of collapsing to the ground. If it falls, the possibility of huge loss of property and assets is bright. At the same time, lives may also be lost.
The said tank reportedly was built in 1977-78. It was inaugurated in 1979. The tank which served the people for four decades, is posing grave danger because of lack of maintenance. It is said that sediment, slush and waste forms half of the tank. Water from this tank is provided to the entire Kadaba town. It is being claimed that hygiene and cleanliness are not given the prominence they rightfully deserve. All the four pillars supporting the tank have developed cracks. Cracks are even visible at the bottom of this water tank.
The tank has a storage capacity of over 50,000 litres. Unless the cracks of the tank are repaired, huge amount of government and private property might be lost. There are chances of loss of human and animal lives too. Hundreds of people visit the town every day for their routine work. If the tank crashes to the ground on a busy day during office hours, it might give rise to catastrophic consequences. Locals have been saying that this situation would not have arisen if the cracks were treated as soon as they appeared.
