Mangaluru, Apr 2: Hours after members of Hindu outfits attacked a youth who was along with a lady while travelling by a private bus to Bengaluru from the city on the night of Thursday April 1, under Kankanady city police station limits, the Mangaluru city police have detained eight people in connection to the case.
Addressing a press meet at his office here on Friday April 2, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, "A group waylaid a private bus at Kankanady bus stop and attacked a youth for travelling with a girl belonging to a different faith. The accused also stabbed the youth with a sharp weapon. As the youth sustained stab injury, he was admitted to a private hospital.
“In connection to the case, a detailed inquiring is in progress. We have detained eight suspects for inquiry. We have also registered a case under 307 and other sections of the IPC. In the past two months, three to four such incidents have been reported.
"The girl was on her way to Bengaluru to look for a job in digital marketing. As the girl was not familiar with Bengaluru, she had asked the boy to accompany her in the job hunt. Both have completed their degree in the city. Both were known to each other," he said.
He also said that tight security has been deployed to keep a vigil in public places like bus stand, beaches and parks during evening and night to avoid any kind of untoward incidents.
