Mangaluru, Apr 2: A group said to be made up of activists of Hindu outfits attacked a young man who was travelling by a private bus to Bengaluru from the city. The incident happened near Pumpwell here on the night of Thursday, April 1.
The person who was at the receiving end of the attack was Asvid Anwar Muhammad (24) from Baikampady Jokatte here. Asvid was travelling to Bengaluru by night bus when a gang of about four to five people stopped the bus at around 9.30 pm. Eyewitnesses said that the youth was dragged out of the bus before being attacked.
The youth was accompanied by a lady who has been handed over to her parents. The exact cause which resulted in the attack is not known. There are allegations that the miscreants took the law into their hands in the name of morality.

The incident has come in the backdrop of similar attacks which happened recently at Suratkal, Beltangady and Pumpwell.
The city police commissioner, N Shashi Kumar, said that the youth who was assaulted near Pumpwell has been admitted into Indiana hospital and is in stable condition. The lady accompanying him has been sent back to her home. A case has been registered in Kankanady police station relating to the assault and investigation has been launched by the deputy commissioner of police and assistant commissioner of police, he added.
