Covid impact: Mangaluru origin hotel owner ends life in Vijayapura

Daijiworld Media Network - Vijayapura (MS)

Vijayapura, Apr 1: Coronavirus pandemic has brutally battered the industrial sector of the country. Many entrepreneurs, who had invested crores of rupees, have suffered major setbacks. As the entrepreneurs just started breathing after the removal of lockdown, the second wave has hit harder than the first. The number of deaths is increasing both due to the second wave of Covid as well as indirect deaths due to the financial crunch.

In a similar incident entrepreneur of Mangaluru origin Ganesh, who used to own Amar Hotel at Indi in the district, killed himself as he suffered huge losses in business due to coronavirus pandemic.

It is said that he had taken a loan of Rs 30 lac to run the hotel. He was finding it difficult to pay the interest on the loan. At the same time, the business of the hotel was also down after the pandemic according to the suspicion of the police.

Indi city police station personnel did the spot inspection and registered a case in this connection.

Could you please breife on how GST killed many businesses? also many says because of GST the rates are high... But because of GST many items we are getting for less rates.. for ex: food before it was around 22 % tax and not GST is m5%. other than that for Properties, the Tax was nearly 8% and not 1% and 5 %. just consider which is more.

The MSME sector is the backbone of the Indian economy. When it is in trouble, India is in trouble. And no! There have been no reports of tax-evasion particular to this sector. Every sector has its share of tax-evaders. There are many problems with the very idea of GST. There is a concept of “input credit” - you get some tax credit if your supplier is also paying GST. So let us say you are a Small Business manufacturing car-radiator hoses. Your turnover threshold allows you to function without registering for GST (this is 100% legal.) You supply to a car manufacturer. Now the car manufacturer will get a tax credit ONLY IF you are registered for GST. So the manufacturer will stop buying from you. They will buy from a larger company (even if the cost price is higher) because they save money on taxes. The above scenario is only one example where the MSME players were forced to shut shop in India. Official numbers have shown that hundreds of thousands of registered MSMEs have been shut down after GST-implementation. These are government figures. There are many more MSMEs that never registered with the Government but have also shut shop because of GST. Imagine the cascading effect this has on the economy. GST is the gift that keeps on giving (I am being sarcastic of course.)

Again they have drastically reduced the interest rates which will make life of senior citizens with no flowing income miserable; in this way, time is not far off that interest rates become zero!

Any businessman will tell you that it's very difficult to even break even after paying off all liabilities! Many, old, running businesses are being put up for sale due to low profits and uncertainty! Those in loan are on verge of committing suicide as recovery goons hound them!

Yes Ramesh, i fully agree with you. Only bjp + Modi are saving and can save us from this difficulot condition. Modi has created jobs for crores of people and there is none unemployed in the country. People migrting to far places inthe apademic season were given free transport by bjp and hone went home by foot. Also, bjp provided food + accomodation to those people who migrated to their place. They were fool to go home by walok at time. Tehre were many trains + transport service provided by bjp free of cost, but unfortunately none used it due to misinformatin by opposition parties. Modi and bjp were crying ont he condition of people who suffered. BJP is so public friendly and this is the reason why 100 percent of indians like bjp + Modi. You will see in Bengal that 100 percent voters will vote for bjp and their Govt will come to power. Modi has taken india to a great height and india is number one country in the world in less number of poors + unemployment + loot + bribe + molestation of women etc etc.

Its sad. Really unfortunate. But, it is coming to many middle class families. The problem is Modi led BJP made a mess of everything and instead of correcting themselves, they are more involved in desperately covering the faults using media and create more. Today, just see petrol is touching Rs.100 and bank interest rate also gone down. Who is it going to effect? Ambani or Adani or the middle class. The sooner middle class realizes it and make Modi led BJP accountable, they will be saving themselves and the nation.
