Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Apr 1: Carcasses of monkeys were found from two different spots within the taluk on Wednesday March 31. Reasons for their deaths are yet to be ascertained.

The decomposed carcass of a monkey was found on Wednesday at Bendethota forest near Karamballii in Mundaje village. People who went there to collect fodder for their cattle saw the body and informed the villagers. Gram panchayat vice president, Disha Patwardhan, panchayat development officer, Suma A S and officials of other departments visited the spot. As the body was thoroughly decomposed, it was buried without post-mortem.

Some locals sighted a monkey lying dead near River Netravati in Dharmasthala. Health department's Swatantra Rao, Rakshit Shetty and others visited the area and conducted inspection. Peria veterinary officer, Dr Yatish Kumarl M S, performed post mortem and sent viscera to the laboratory at Shiviamogga.

This is the fourth incident of death of monkeys during the last two months. It is believed that someone, frustrated by the monkey menace, might be feeding poisonous food to monkeys and then throwing the carcasses of the monkeys in the forest.
