Puttur, Mar 31: At a time when thousands of bore wells being sunk each year as well as other forms of lifting water from the underground water table for commercial and agricultural purpose are depleting the precious water reserves of the earth, a farmer from Puttur has been putting in efforts to save underground water table. Because of excessive use of groundwater, the water table is sinking dangerously.
Muraleedhar Bhat collects rainwater for his plantation. He has dug a huge pit in a 25 cent area for collecting rainwater. The pit has the capacity to collect 50 lac litres of water annually. He has spent five lac rupees for creating this pit.
