Beltangady, Mar 31: Koyyur village near Ujire in the taluk witnessed a strange incident. A calf born to a jersey cow has two heads, four eyes, two ears, and two mouths. It is alive and is trying to feed on milk and water with both its mouths.
The calf is very weak. The calf was delivered by the cow under the care of a veterinary officer from Ujire, Dr Kartik, at around 2 am on Wednesday. The cow that delivered the calf is in good health.
Dr Kartik said that this female calf with multiple organs might not survive for long. It has been trying to take in food, but has not been able to do so. He said that possibly it would have been a case of twins but during the development of the embryo, because of abnormal growth, the calf is born in this way.
