Mangaluru, Mar 31: A truck transporting imported coal toppled on National Highway 75 at Maroli after the driver lost control over it on Wednesday March 31.

The traffic department officials said the driver was reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

The injured driver was trapped in the vehicle. He was rescued by the Fire and Emergency Services officials.

Later, he was rushed to the private hospital in the city.

Due to the intensity of the accident, electric poles got damaged and coal spilled from the truck on to the road. A crane was used to clear the truck from the road.

This road (NH) has not been designed for heavy-duty vehicles; it's high time some top road designers are brought in to study & verify this before a major tragedy occurs!

I was there today happened around 3:15pm i was moving towards nanthoor fly over, he lost control and by the time truck toppled he was already trapped under side. that road is very narrow despite a 4 way lane, trucks taking turns often require a wide gap to maneuver but its very tricky if you are on a 4 wheeler when the truck besides you takes a turn they tend to move inwards towards you you got no space to move either side which is very dangerous. several accidents happened here in past. whoever designed this stretch from canara springs towards padil cross needs some proper education on how to design highways.
